Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg

Method

  • Heat
  • milk
  • to warm temperature.
  • Dissolve yeast.
  • Let set a few minutes.
  • Add sugar and salt while warm.
  • Gradually add 2 cups flour and egg.
  • Beat at slow speed for 1/2 minute. Beat 3 minutes at high speed.
  • Stir in as much of the remaining flour as you can mix with a spoon.
  • Knead in enough of the remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough.
  • Knead until smooth, 6 to
  • 8 minutes. Shape into ball.
  • Place in a greased bowl. Turn
