Ingredients
- 2 qt. melted fat
- 1 can lye
- 1 c. liquid ammonia (optional)
- 1 qt. water
- 1 Tbsp. Borax, dissolved in 1/2 c. hot water (optional)
Method
- Dissolve lye in water and let stand until it is lukewarm. Add slowly to the fat, stirring constantly until jelly-like. Cool slowly.
- Add Borax and water and mix thoroughly.
- Remove from fire.
- Add ammonia and stir until thick like honey.
- Pour into mold.
- Cut and let cure for 4 to 6 weeks.
