Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. butter
  • 4 c. plain flour
  • pinch of baking powder
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 4 or more Tbsp. sweet milk
  • sprinkle of salt

Method

  • Sift sugar, flour, baking powder and salt together.
  • Work into soft butter and milk.
  • Make into a ball.
  • Put into a Ziploc bag. Beat with mallet 200 strokes.
  • Take out and divide into 4 balls. Roll each ball between wax paper.
  • Roll very thin.
  • Cut in strips. Bake at 325°.
  • Do not let it brown.
  • While still warm, cut into bite size pieces.
  • Pack in airtight box.
  • Save 2 or 3 long strips for pastor to use in the service.
  • Recipe makes enough for Pisgah. Very old recipe, used at Pisgah for many years.
