Ingredients

  • 2 c. granulated sugar
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 cube margarine
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Method

  • Sift together in a large bowl and set aside the granulated sugar and flour.
  • Bring to a boil the margarine, shortening, cocoa and water.
  • Pour mixture into sugar and flour.
  • Mix well.
  • Add buttermilk, soda, eggs and salt.
  • Bake in 10 1/2 x 15-inch cookie sheet type jelly roll pan for 20 minutes at 400°.
  • About 5 minutes before cake is done, bring to boil the margarine, cocoa and milk. Remove from heat and add 1 box powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and nuts (optional).
  • Pour on hot cake and spread around.
