Ingredients

  • 4 c. extra fine granulated sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 3 Tbsp. white Karo syrup
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 1 c. pecan meats

Method

  • Put sugar in heavy saucepan.
  • Add cocoa, then milk.
  • Add Karo and stir well.
  • Scrape sugar from sides of saucepan and put over medium heat.
  • Bring to boil, then switch to low heat.
  • Do not stir.
  • Boil until it forms a soft ball in cold water.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Drop in butter and sprinkle in a little salt.
  • Do not stir. Set in container of cold water for 15 or 20 minutes.
  • Beat until very thick.
  • Add nut meats.
  • Beat until almost ready to harden. Pour into buttered platter.
  • Cut into squares and store in tin box.
  • Do not make in damp weather.
