Ingredients
- 4 c. extra fine granulated sugar
- 4 Tbsp. cocoa
- 3 Tbsp. white Karo syrup
- 3/4 c. milk
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1 c. pecan meats
Method
- Put sugar in heavy saucepan.
- Add cocoa, then milk.
- Add Karo and stir well.
- Scrape sugar from sides of saucepan and put over medium heat.
- Bring to boil, then switch to low heat.
- Do not stir.
- Boil until it forms a soft ball in cold water.
- Remove from heat.
- Drop in butter and sprinkle in a little salt.
- Do not stir. Set in container of cold water for 15 or 20 minutes.
- Beat until very thick.
- Add nut meats.
- Beat until almost ready to harden. Pour into buttered platter.
- Cut into squares and store in tin box.
- Do not make in damp weather.
