Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 c. shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (about 4 oz.)

Method

  • In saucepan, melt butter over low heat.
  • Blend flour, salt and pepper.
  • Cook over low heat, stirring until mixture is smooth and bubbly.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in milk.
  • Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.
  • Boil and stir 1 minute.
  • Stir in mustard and cheese; heat over low heat until cheese is melted.
