Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp. margarine
  • 1 1/2 c. cooked Minute rice
  • 1 medium head cabbage
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 1/2 lb. lean ground pork
  • 1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large can tomatoes
  • 3 bay leaves

Method

  • Saute onions in margarine until transparent, set aside to cool. Cook Minute rice as directed on box and set aside to cool. Carefully break leaves from cabbage head so as to keep leaves from tearing.
  • Wash leaves.
  • Drop leaves in boiling water just long enough to make pliable.
  • In large bowl, mix together pork, beef, onion, rice and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Shape mixture into 8 oval "loaves."
  • Wrap each loaf with a cabbage leaf and place in 8 x 10-inch casserole dish.
  • Squeeze tomatoes and juice over each loaf. Stick in bay leaves.
  • Bake, covered, at 325° for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Serves 6 to 8.
