Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 2 Tbsp. margarine
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 c. thinly sliced celery
  • 1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 (1 lb.) can chili beans
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 2 c. shredded cabbage

Method

  • Crumble ground beef in margarine.
  • Add onion and celery; saute for about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in tomatoes; break with a fork.
  • Add water, beans with liquid, salt, chili powder and pepper.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Add cabbage; cook until cabbage is tender, 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how tender you like cabbage.
  • Delicious with corn bread.
  • Freezes well.
