Ingredients

  • 10 to 12 cabbage leaves
  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 1 egg
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 c. rice (regular)
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 (10 oz.) can tomato soup
  • 1 (10 oz.) can water
  • 1/2 medium onion, sliced

Method

  • In a bowl, combine hamburger, uncooked rice, egg, salt and pepper.
  • Set aside.
  • Boil cabbage leaves for 5 minutes.
  • In a pan, saute onion in vegetable oil.
  • Add lemon juice, sugar, soup and water.
  • Simmer.
  • Take 1/10 of hamburger mixture, roll into a ball, wrap a cabbage leaf around the mixture and place it in a large pot with the opening of cabbage at the bottom.
  • Continue until all hamburger/cabbage is used.
  • Pour the onion/soup sauce over cabbage rolls.
  • Simmer on low for 3 hours.
