Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. milk
  • 4 yolks (reserve whites for meringue)
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Mix together all ingredients and beat well.
  • Place pan on stove on medium heat and bring to a boil; stir.
  • In an iron skillet, melt one cup of sugar until "good and dark."
  • Add to other ingredients, stirring constantly until it thickens.
  • Bake in two unbaked pie shells at 350° until done.
  • Beat the four egg whites until stiff, adding about 1/4 cup sugar.
  • Put on pies and brown.
