Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 qt. buttermilk, warmed
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • oil (for frying)
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 8 c. flour

Method

  • Soften the yeast in warm water.
  • Pour warm buttermilk into a large warm bowl.
  • Add the sugar, eggs, oil, salt, baking powder and baking soda; mix well.
  • Add the softened yeast and mix.
  • Add 4 cups of flour and beat until smooth.
  • Add the remaining 4 cups of flour to make dough soft.
  • Cover; let the dough rise in a warm place about 1 hour or until double in bulk.
  • Punch the dough down to its original size.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
