- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1 qt. buttermilk, warmed
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 eggs
- oil (for frying)
- 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 2 tsp. salt
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 8 c. flour
Method
- Soften the yeast in warm water.
- Pour warm buttermilk into a large warm bowl.
- Add the sugar, eggs, oil, salt, baking powder and baking soda; mix well.
- Add the softened yeast and mix.
- Add 4 cups of flour and beat until smooth.
- Add the remaining 4 cups of flour to make dough soft.
- Cover; let the dough rise in a warm place about 1 hour or until double in bulk.
- Punch the dough down to its original size.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
