Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1/2 c. butter (not margarine)
  • 5 oz. nuts
  • 8 oz. chocolate chips or milk chocolate

Method

  • For Microwave:
  • In large 2 to 3-quart Pyrex mixing bowl, rub top of bowl with stick of butter.
  • Put remaining butter in bottom of bowl and carefully pour the sugar-salt mixture on the butter. Pour water on top.
  • Microwave 8 minutes.
  • It will not be done at this time.
  • Add additional time in 30 second increments.
  • You must open the door of oven every 30 seconds and look in.
  • The candy is done when it turns caramel brown color.
  • Never stir this candy. Place foil on cookie sheet.
  • Top with nuts and pour candy over nuts.
  • Have the foil and nuts ready before you start your 8 minutes in the microwave.
  • Don't scrape the bowl!
  • Set at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  • Melt chocolate for 1 1/2 minutes and pour over toffee.
  • Chill and break into pieces.
