Ingredients

  • 4 sq. unsweetened chocolate
  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Method

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Grease an oblong 9 x 13-inch pan.
  • Melt chocolate and shortening in microwave for 2 minutes; set aside. Beat sugar and eggs in large bowl.
  • Add chocolate mixture and mix in.
  • Add flour, baking powder and salt; stir in.
  • Mixture will be thick.
  • Mix in nuts.
  • Spread in pan.
  • Bake about 30 minutes, until top has a dull crust.
  • A slight imprint will be left when top is touched lightly with finger.
  • Cool before cutting.
  • Store in tightly covered container.
