Ingredients
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. white sugar
- 1/2 c. corn syrup
- 1/2 c. water
- pinch salt
- 2 egg whites
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. nuts, if desired
Method
- Put first 5 ingredients in heavy pan.
- Stir until sugars dissolve.
- Cook without stirring to 265° on candy thermometer, or to hard ball stage.
- Beat egg whites until stiff.
- Slowly beat in the syrup.
- When mixture begins to thicken, add vanilla.
- Continue beating until it holds its shape.
- Drop by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper.
- Store in airtight container.
