Ingredients

  • 1 lb. broccoli or 2 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen
  • 2 c. small whole onions
  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 c. sharp shredded cheese
  • 1 c. soft bread crumbs
  • 1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese

Method

  • Cook broccoli; drain.
  • In saucepan, melt half of the margarine.
  • Blend in flour, salt and a dash of pepper.
  • Add milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until thick.
  • Reduce heat; blend in cream cheese until smooth.
  • Place broccoli and onions in a 1 1/2-quart casserole.
  • Pour sauce mixture over and mix lightly. Top with cheese.
  • Melt remaining butter; toss with bread crumbs. Sprinkle atop casserole.
  • Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes.
