Ingredients

  • 10 slices white bread
  • 1/2 c. Mazola margarine
  • 4 to 5 medium size apples, pared, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 c. raisins
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. dark Karo syrup
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. chopped walnuts

Method

  • Remove crust from bread.
  • Melt Mazola in a large skillet.
  • Add bread and toss lightly.
  • Cook over medium heat, turning often until toasted.
  • Add apples, raisins, cinnamon
  • and syrup; toss to coat.
  • Cover and cook over low heat for 30 minutes, tossing occasionally, turning once or twice until apples are tender. Sprinkle with brown sugar and chopped walnuts.
  • Yields 6 to 8 servings.
  • Very good.
