Ingredients
- 1 lb. raisins or dates
- 2 c. (heaping) sugar
- 2 c. cold water
- 1/2 c. melted shortening
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. nuts (if desired)
Method
- Boil together raisins, sugar, water and shortening.
- Let cool. Add soda, cloves, nutmeg, salt and flour.
- Pour into 2 greased and floured loaf pans.
- Bake at 350° for 50 to 55 minutes.
