Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 c. chopped onions
  • 1 c. chopped green pepper
  • 1 c. chopped celery
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp. beef base in 1 c. hot water
  • 1 16 oz. can tomatoes, cut up
  • 1 16 oz. can dark red kidney beans
  • 1 16 oz. can chili beans
  • 1 16 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. dried basil

Method

  • In large stock pot, cook ground beef, strain fat. Set aside ground beef. In same pot saute vegetables in olive oil until soft. Add ground beef and rest of ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for about 2 hours, stirring frequently.
