Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 c. Hershey's cocoa
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 3/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 3/4 c. milk

Method

  • Grease and flour 2 (9-inch) or 3 (8-inch) cake pans.
  • Cream butter, shortening, sugar and vanilla until fluffy; add eggs. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and powder with salt in bowl. Add to butter mixture alternately with milk.
  • Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes in 9-inch pan, 35 to 40 minutes in 8-inch pan.
  • Cool 10 minutes and frost.
