Ingredients

  • 1 lb. good top round or sirloin, cut into 1/4 to 3/4-inch strips
  • hot vegetable oil
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 c. diagonal carrot slices
  • 1 c. diagonal celery slices
  • 2 c. mushroom halves (1/2 lb.)
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/4 c. cold water
  • 1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese

Method

  • Brown meat in oil; drain.
  • Add 1 cup water, soy sauce and garlic to drippings.
  • Cover and simmer 5 minutes.
  • Add carrot, celery and mushrooms.
  • Cover and continue cooking 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Combine the cornstarch and cold water and blend well. Gradually add cornstarch mixture to hot meat and vegetables. Stir constantly until mixture boils and thickens.
  • Remove from heat and stir in cheese.
  • Serve over hot, cooked rice.
