Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 c. milk
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 c. plain flour
  • 4 large eggs, separated
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • pinch of salt

Method

  • Cream butter until it is light and fluffy.
  • Add sugar, a little at a time, mixing after each addition.
  • Sift flour with salt and baking powder three times.
  • Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  • Add flour alternately with milk, adding a bit of flour last.
  • Beat egg whites and add to batter, using a folding method.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Bake in a well-greased tube pan, three 9-inch pans, sheet cake pan or make muffins.
  • Bake at 350° until cake springs back when pressed with fore finger. Frost with your favorite frosting or enjoy plain.
