Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 4 tbsp (1/2 stick) cold butter, chopped
  • 3/4 cup cold milk, plus additional, to glaze
  • None None Jam or marmalade, to serve
  • None None Whipped cream, to serve

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Sift flour into a large bowl. Rub in butter to make fine crumbs. Add milk. Stir until it forms a soft dough, adding 1-2 tbsp more milk, if needed. Turn out dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead briefly until smooth, then shape into a 3/4 inch-thick round. Using a 2 inch round cookie cutter dipped into flour, cut rounds from dough. Place scones side by side on prepared pan. Brush tops with additional milk to glaze.
  • Bake for 12-15 mins or until golden and well risen. Serve scones with jam and cream.
