Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. Crisco shortening
  • 1 pkg. or 1 yeast cake
  • 1 c. buttermilk

Method

  • Dissolve yeast in 2 tablespoons hot water.
  • Mix in all ingredients.
  • Mix well.
  • Place on floured board.
  • Sprinkle with flour and knead well.
  • Keep adding flour until it is the desired thickness of biscuit dough.
  • Cover and place in the refrigerator. It will keep several days.
  • Pinch off what you want to bake; roll out on floured board and cut out.
  • A juice glass makes an ideal biscuit cutter.
  • Place in greased bread pan and bake at 400° for about 10 to 12 minutes.
