Ingredients

  • 4 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. milk
  • 2 Tbsp. light Karo syrup
  • 8 slices French bread, sliced 3/4-inch thick

Method

  • Melt butter in saucepan.
  • Add brown sugar and Karo.
  • Cook over medium heat until bubbly.
  • Pour into 13 x 9 greased pan.
  • Add all of apple slices.
  • Beat eggs.
  • Add milk and vanilla to eggs. Dip slices of French bread into milk mixture and layer over top of apples in pan.
  • Refrigerate overnight.
  • Bake, uncovered, in 350° oven for 35 minutes.
  • To serve, use spatula and invert each slice of bread on serving plates.
  • Spoon apples over top.
