- 12 cup all-purpose flour
- 14 cup sugar
- 14 cup light brown sugar
- 34 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 14 teaspoon nutmeg
- 18 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- 13 cup old fashioned oats
- 14 cup chopped walnuts or 14 cup pecans
- 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup fresh blackberries (optional) or 1 cup raspberries (optional)
- 1 lemon, zest of
- 14 cup light brown sugar
Method
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
- Grease an 8 x 8 x 2 inch baking dish.
- Set aside.
- For Topping: Place all the topping ingredients in a food processor and process until the mixture is crumbly and there are no large pieces of butter visible.
- Set aside while you prepare the filling.
- Place apples in a large bowl, along with the berries and lemon zest (if using), and add the brown sugar.
- Gently combine and then transfer to your prepared baking dish spread the topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for approximately 35-45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
- Remove from oven and place on a wire rack to cool for about 30 minutes before serving.
- Serve with softly whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
