Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 100 g softened unsalted butter, cubed
  • 12 cup brown sugar
  • 12 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 3 apples
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 14 cup raisins
  • 14 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 14 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 14 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Add cider vinegar to milk.
  • Peel and chop apples.
  • Toss with lemon juice, raisins, spices, and honey.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, and soda.
  • Rub in butter until mealy.
  • Add sugar and milk mixture.
  • Knead dough, adding more flour if sticky.
  • Roll out half of dough to cover bottom of 8-inch square pie dish.
  • Spoon apple mixture over.
  • Roll out rest of dough to cover, and cut vents in top.
  • Bake for 45 minutes, or until top is browned.
