Ingredients
- 5 c. flour
- 3/4 c. vegetable shortening
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 cake yeast
- 1/2 c. lukewarm water
- 2 c. buttermilk
Method
- Sift together dry ingredients.
- Cut in shortening thoroughly. Add buttermilk and yeast, dissolved in water.
- Mix with spoon until all flour is moistened.
- Roll out onto floured surface to 1/2 to 3/4-inch thickness.
- Cut biscuits.
- Bake at 400° on cookie sheet for 12 minutes.
- This dough will keep several weeks in the refrigerator.
