Ingredients

  • 5 c. plain flour
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 pkg. yeast, dissolved in 4 Tbsp. warm water and 2 c. buttermilk

Method

  • Sift together first 5 ingredients.
  • Cut in shortening.
  • Add yeast mixture.
  • Add to dry ingredients.
  • Dough should be soft and pliable; work 5 minutes.
  • Roll out; cut with biscuit cutter.
  • Bake at 400° for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • May refrigerate dough overnight.
