Ingredients
- 5 c. plain flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 pkg. yeast, dissolved in 4 Tbsp. warm water and 2 c. buttermilk
Method
- Sift together first 5 ingredients.
- Cut in shortening.
- Add yeast mixture.
- Add to dry ingredients.
- Dough should be soft and pliable; work 5 minutes.
- Roll out; cut with biscuit cutter.
- Bake at 400° for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- May refrigerate dough overnight.
