Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. Shortening
  • 1 c. Firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 c. Applesauce
  • 2 1/4 c. All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Baking pwdr
  • 3/4 tsp Apple-pie spice
  • 1 c. Minced nuts

Method

  • Cream shortening; add in sugar gradually, beating till light and fluffy.
  • Add in applesauce.
  • Sift together dry ingredients and add in to creamed mix.
  • Mix in nuts.
  • Pour into loaf pan (9 x 5 x 3 inches) lined on the bottom with greased wax paper.
  • Bake in preheated slow oven (325 degrees F.) for about 1 hour.
  • Cold for 5 min.
  • Turn out on rack and peel off paper.
  • Cold, and frost as desired.
