Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 1/4 c. margarine
  • 4 1/2 to 5 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 (1/4 oz.) pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 egg

Method

  • Grease large bowl.
  • Heat milk, water and butter in a saucepan until very warm (120° to 130°).
  • Combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt and yeast in mixing bowl.
  • Add heated mixture and egg.
  • Beat with electric mixer on high speed 2 minutes.
  • Stir in enough flour to make soft dough.
  • Turn dough onto floured board.
  • Cover with mixing bowl. Let set 10 minutes.
  • Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Form ball with dough and place in greased bowl.
  • Turn once to grease top.
  • Cover and let rise in warm place, free from draft, until double in bulk, about 45 minutes.
