Ingredients
- 1 pkg. yeast (dry or cake)
- 1 Tbsp. warm water
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. hot water
- 3 eggs, beaten
- approximately 4 c. flour
- sausage, cut into strips (I use Lil Smokies or kielbasa)
Method
- Combine first 3 ingredients.
- Set aside.
- Combine shortening, sugar, salt, hot tap water and eggs.
- Beat well.
- Add yeast mixture.
- Add 2 cups flour and beat well.
- Stir in another 2 to 2 1/2 cups flour to make soft dough.
- Refrigerate in large covered bowl overnight.
- Divide dough into 3 portions.
- Roll portion into circle 1/4-inch thick.
- Cut in 2-inch circles.
- Simmer sausage in covered pan approximately 5 minutes.
- Place sausage piece in center of each circle.
- Moisten edges of dough with a little water.
- Lap one side of dough over sausage and press edge of dough together to seal.
- Repeat with remaining dough.
- Place rolls on greased cookie sheet.
- Let rise about 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until doubled.
- Bake at 350° for about 10 to 12 minutes or until brown. Makes 36 rolls.
