Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. oleo or butter, softened
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. golden raisins, cut up
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 Tbsp. grated orange peel

Method

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Grease and flour a 13 x 9 x 2-inch oblong pan or 2 (9-inch) or 3 (8-inch) round pans.
  • Beat all ingredients constantly 30 seconds on low speed, then 3 minutes on high speed. Pour into pan(s) and bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean (oblong 45 to 50 minutes, layer 30 to 35 minutes). Cool and frost.
