Ingredients

  • 2 large tart apples or 4 small
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • melted butter
  • 1 c. flour, sifted
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Slice apples thin and spread in a well-greased 8-inch pan. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and melted butter.
  • Sift dry ingredients into mixing bowl.
  • Add shortening and milk; beat 2 minutes.
  • Add egg and vanilla.
  • Beat again for 2 minutes.
  • Spread over apple mixture.
  • Bake in moderately hot oven at 375° for about 35 to 40 minutes.
  • Serve warm with pudding sauce or cream.
  • Yields 6 servings.
