Ingredients

  • 1/3 c. ground walnuts
  • 3 Tbsp. sifted light brown sugar
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2/3 c. melted butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Combine walnuts and sugar in a bowl.
  • Butter a 2 1/2-quart Kugelhupf or Bundt pan well and coat it with the walnut and sugar mixture.
  • Sift together dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt).
  • Mix egg, buttermilk, butter and vanilla in large bowl.
  • Beat in flour mixture until batter is smooth.
  • Pour into pan and bake in moderate oven (350°) for one hour or until a cake tester comes out clean.
  • The cake may fall slightly.
