Ingredients
- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 c. red food coloring
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. baking soda
Method
- Sift flour, salt and cocoa.
- Add eggs and red food coloring. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
- Beat until smooth.
- Add vanilla.
- Mix baking soda with vinegar and fold into batter.
- Pour into 2 (9-inch) pans and bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until center springs back to the touch.
- Split layers when cool and ice with creamy frosting.
