Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. water
  • 1 pkg. yeast cake
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar (granulated)
  • 4 Tbsp. soft shortening
  • 6 c. flour, sifted

Method

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • Add shortening, salt, sugar and half the flour.
  • Beat 2 minutes at medium mixer speed.
  • Add remaining flour and blend with spoon until smooth.
  • Cover with cloth and let raise for 30 minutes.
  • Beat 255 strokes and spread it evenly in greased pans.
  • Let raise 45 minutes.
  • Bake at 375° for 45 to 50 minutes.
