Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
  • 14 oz. bag caramels
  • 3/4 c. evaporated milk
  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 6 oz. chocolate chips
  • 6 oz. walnuts

Method

  • Prepare cake mix according to directions.
  • Pour 1/3 of batter into greased 9 x 13-inch pan and bake 15 minutes at 350°.
  • Combine caramels, milk and margarine in a double boiler until blended, stirring often.
  • Pour over first layer of baked cake.
  • Pour rest of batter over caramel layer and sprinkle with chips and walnuts. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes.
  • When cool, frost with Cool Whip.
