Ingredients

  • 1 double layer size German chocolate cake mix
  • 1 large can evaporated milk
  • 6 Tbsp. margarine, melted
  • 1 (12 to 14 oz.) pkg. caramels
  • 1 c. chocolate chips
  • 1 c. chopped pecans

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Grease and lightly flour a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  • Mix cake mix, 3/4 cup milk and margarine; spoon half the batter into the pan.
  • Bake for 6 minutes, or until it starts to get firm.
  • Melt caramels with the remaining milk.
  • Remove cake from oven.
  • Sprinkle with 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup pecans.
  • Spoon caramel over chips and nuts.
  • Spoon remaining batter on top.
  • Top with remaining chips and nuts.
  • Return to oven; bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until cake springs back when touched.
  • Cool before cutting.
