Ingredients

  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • 5 oz. can evaporated milk
  • 3/4 c. walnuts, roughly chopped (opt.)
  • 6 oz. pkg. choc. chips
  • 2/3 c. margarine, melted
  • 14 oz. pkg. caramels

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • In a medium saucepan melt caramels with 1/2 of the evaporated milk.
  • Keep warm.
  • In a medium bowl mix dry cake mix, melted margarine, remaining milk, and nuts.
  • Spread 1/2 of the dough into an ungreased 9 by 13 inch pan and bake in preheated oven for 6 minutes.
  • Remove pan from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the baked cake.
  • Drizzle caramel mixture over the chips.
  • Drop remaining dough evenly onto caramel layer.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Cool completely.
  • Cut into squares and enjoy.
  • Because of the milk, this will need to be kept in the refrigerator.
