Ingredients
- 4 pears ripe
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup butter melted
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup condensed milk
Method
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F/180 degrees C. Butter a 1.5 litre oven proof dish generously.
- Core and cut the pears into 8 sections lengthwise and arrange on the dish.
- Sift the flour, salt and baking powder.
- In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Combine the milk and vanilla and add alternately with the sifted dry ingredients, blending well after each addition.
- Pour over the pears in the baking dish.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes (or until cake tester comes out clean).
- Make the toffee sauce by combining the brown sugar, condensed milk and 1/4 cup butter in a saucepan.
