Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 5 c. sifted flour

Method

  • Soften yeast in lukewarm water; scald milk.
  • Add shortening, sugar and salt; cool to lukewarm.
  • Add 2 cups flour; mix well. Add softened yeast and eggs; beat well.
  • Add enough flour to make soft dough.
  • Turn out on lightly floured board.
  • Knead until satiny.
  • Place in greased bowl and let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and shape into rolls or coffee cake.
  • Let rise until double in bulk.
  • Bake at 400° for 30 minutes.
  • Makes 3 dozen.
