Ingredients

  • 1 gal. sliced cucumbers
  • 11 c. cold water
  • 1 c. pickling salt

Method

  • Dissolve and pour over cucumbers (gallon glass jar); let stand for 2 weeks. Wash off brine water and cover with cold water. Add 2 tablespoons alum powder and let stand for 24 hours. Drain off alum water. Pour vinegar to cover and add 2 teaspoons pickling spices (tied in a bag) and leave for 24 hours. Drain off vinegar and throw away. Add 3 cups sugar for 3 mornings straight. These pickles do not have to be sealed. The whole process is done in the gallon glass jar.
