Ingredients

  • 1 qt. peeled, cooked tomatoes
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 2 slices bread, diced and buttered
  • 1 c. grated Cheddar cheese
  • dash of salt and pepper

Method

  • Cook tomatoes and juice, brown sugar, butter, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil; thicken with cornstarch (dissolved in 1/4 cup water).
  • Bake in shallow baking pan with foil cover about 20 minutes at 350°.
  • Remove foil.
  • Add crumbs and cheese.
  • Return to oven to melt cheese.
