Ingredients
- 1/2 (2 lb.) bag plain flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. (scant) sugar
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 3/4 pt. jar warm water
- lump of shortening (size of big egg)
Method
- Use half of 2 pound bag of flour.
- Sift flour with salt and sugar.
- Dissolve yeast in warm water, filling 3/4 of a pint jar. Stir until dissolved.
- Add to flour mixture.
- Put in lump of shortening and work up like biscuits.
- Turn out on floured board. Knead until not sticky.
- Let rise in warm place until doubled in size (about 1 1/2 hours).
- Roll out rolls.
- Let rise again.
- Bake at 400° until brown.
