Ingredients
- 1 lb. bulk pork sausage
- 1 small onion
- 3/4 lb. sliced mushrooms
- 1 loaf thinly sliced firm bread
- butter
- 3/4 lb. finely chopped ham or fried, crumbled bacon
- 3/4 lb. shredded, sharp, Cheddar cheese
- 1 lb. Mozzarella cheese
- 8 eggs
- 1/4 to 1/2 c. milk
Method
- Brown and partially drain sausage.
- Saute onion and mushrooms in remaining fat; drain.
- Remove crusts from bread; butter slices and arrange one layer, buttered side down, in a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
- Top with ham or bacon and cover with Cheddar cheese.
- Add another layer of buttered bread and top with sausage, mushrooms and onions.
- Cover with Mozzarella cheese.
- Beat eggs and milk and pour over layers in pan.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Bake, uncovered, at 325° for 45 minutes or until set.
- Serves 6 to 8.
