Ingredients

  • 1 lb. bulk pork sausage
  • 1 small onion
  • 3/4 lb. sliced mushrooms
  • 1 loaf thinly sliced firm bread
  • butter
  • 3/4 lb. finely chopped ham or fried, crumbled bacon
  • 3/4 lb. shredded, sharp, Cheddar cheese
  • 1 lb. Mozzarella cheese
  • 8 eggs
  • 1/4 to 1/2 c. milk

Method

  • Brown and partially drain sausage.
  • Saute onion and mushrooms in remaining fat; drain.
  • Remove crusts from bread; butter slices and arrange one layer, buttered side down, in a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  • Top with ham or bacon and cover with Cheddar cheese.
  • Add another layer of buttered bread and top with sausage, mushrooms and onions.
  • Cover with Mozzarella cheese.
  • Beat eggs and milk and pour over layers in pan.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Bake, uncovered, at 325° for 45 minutes or until set.
  • Serves 6 to 8.
