Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 3 strip steaks, about 1 in thick
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 2 scallins, sliced thin

Method

  • 1) Whisk soy sauce, sugar, garlic, ginger, pepper flakes, vinegar and cornstarch in a medium bowl.
  • 2) Pat steaks dry with paper towels. Heat oil in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until just smoking.
  • 3) Add steaks and cook until well browned, 3-5 minutes per side. Transfer to plate and tent with fold.
  • 4) Wipe out skillet and add soy sauce mixture. Simmer over medium heat until sauce is thickened, about 2 minutes.
  • 5) Slice steak thin against grain and transfer to platter.
  • 6) Pour sauce over steak and sprinkle with scallions. Serve.
  • Serve with vegetables or over rice.
