- 2 pkg. (9 oz.) frozen French-style green beans or 1 lb. fresh beans
- 4 oz. sharp Cheddar cheese, grated (about 1 c.)
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1/4 c. minced onions
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 tsp. dry mustard
- 3/4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 c. thick sour cream
Method
- Cook beans in bacon drippings.
- Meanwhile, melt butter in saucepan.
- Add onions.
- Cook until onions are transparent.
- Remove from heat.
- Mix flour, salt, pepper, mustard and Worcestershire sauce.
- Blend into cheese mixture.
- Heat until mixture bubbles. Remove from heat and gradually stir in sour cream.
- Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, just until mixture thickens.
- Cook an additional 2 or 3 minutes longer, stirring constantly.
- Do not boil.
- When beans are tender, draining if necessary, add to sauce. Toss beans gently until well coated with sauce.
