Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1/2 c. celery, diced
  • 3 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 1/2 to 2 lb. ground chuck
  • 1 (32 oz.) can Hunt's whole tomatoes
  • 1 (12 oz.) can Contadina tomato paste
  • 3 (16 oz.) cans Contadina tomato puree
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. sweet basil
  • 2 bay leaves

Method

  • In a large pan, heat olive oil on medium heat.
  • Add celery and onion and cook until limp.
  • Turn heat to high and add ground chuck.
  • Cook quickly until browned.
  • Take off heat and add tomatoes (with the juice).
  • Cut the tomatoes up and then add paste and tomato sauce.
  • Stir until blended.
  • Add spices; stir.
  • Cook slowly for about 8 hours.
  • Serve over your favorite pasta.
