Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 c. starter (at room temperature)

Method

  • Rinse large bowl in hot water.
  • Put 1 cup warm water in bowl and sprinkle with yeast.
  • Stir in next 3 ingredients.
  • Add flour and mix thoroughly with hands.
  • Cover and let set for 1 hour or until double its bulk.
  • Turn out on heavily floured surface and knead for 10 minutes.
  • Place in 2 round pans, well-greased with oil.
  • Sprinkle with cornmeal.
  • Slit with razor and let rise for 40 minutes.
  • Brush with eggs and bake 30 to 35 minutes at 400°.
