Ingredients

  • 1 c. starter
  • 1/4 c. dry powdered lowfat milk
  • 1 c. white flour
  • 1 c. applesauce

Method

  • Let sit in covered bowl in hot place while you cream the next mix.
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/2 c. butter 1 egg 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon allspice 1/2 teaspoon cloves 2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 c. minced nuts and/or possibly raisins
  • The night before: Mix starter, 2 c. flour and 2 c. water.
  • Let set overnight.
  • The next day: Save out 1 c. starter to put back in the refrigerator.
  • Use the remaining starter for the recipe.
  • Mix starter, powdered lowfat milk, flour and applesauce and set aside.
  • Cream together white and brown sugars, and butter.
  • Add in egg, spices, raisins and nuts.
  • Add in sourdough mix and stir by hand about 100 strokes.
  • Bake in 7x11, 8x8 or possibly 9x9 pan (greased).
  • Bake at 350 degrees F. for 30-40 min.
  • Test for doneness with toothpick.
  • Allow to cold in the pan.
  • Does not need frosting.
